The influence of pre-gestational nutritional status on mother-newborn pair outcomes

Introduction: Abnormal pregestational and gestational maternal nutritional status is an undeniable health problem which can result in changes interfere fetal conditions. Objective: To analyze the influence of pre-pregnancy on mother-newborn pair outcomes. Methods: This observational, analytical, cross-sectional study carried out a public Maternity Hospital Joinville, SC, Brazil. A total 1,670 puerperal women were interviewed classified according to BMI. The outcomes evaluated were: cesarean delivery, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Pregnancy-induced Hypertension, small for age newborns, large premature birth, low weight at birth admission neonatal intensive care unit. Results: Low-weight pregnant had higher risk cesarian delivery. Overweight obese patients greater chance GDM, with odds ranging from 1.5 7.2 times, PIH 1.7 4.6 times. Conclusion: have Meanwhile, overweight all classes obesity pregnancy progressively increase GDM PIH.
